ART

This image is really contaversial to most of the world. The intention of the artist was to porteay the pope as the devil and making him look like the antichrist. The quality of the work is no that good because it looks like it is all photoshoped. The response of the audience is mainly firghtened and shocked because of the way the author is portraying the pope. In the Art and Knowledge Criteria in art as imitation this drawing is not original because various artist has drawn other popes and show them as the antichrist. In art as communication the author expresses the way he feels about the pope and maybe christianity that he thinks that there is no God or that this is the false prophet. In art as education you can learn that there are people that have other beliefs and believe that the pope is the antichrist.

Classical Conditioning

Classical conditioning is a form of associative learning that was first demonstrated by Ivan Pavlov. The typical procedure for inducing classical conditioning involves presentations of a neutral stimulus along with a stimulus of some significance. The neutral stimulus could be any event that does not result in an overt behavioral response from the organism under investigation. Pavlov referred to this as a conditioned stimulus (CS). Conversely, presentation of the significant stimulus necessarily evokes an innate, often reflexive, response. Pavlov called these the unconditioned stimulus (US) and unconditioned response (UR), respectively. If the CS and the US are repeatedly paired, eventually the two stimuli become associated and the organism begins to produce a behavioral response to the CS. Pavlov called this the conditioned response (CR).
The original and most famous example of classical conditioning involved the salivary conditioning of Pavlov's dogs. During his research on the physiology of digestion in dogs, Pavlov noticed that, rather than simply salivating in the presence of meat powder (an innate response to food that he called the unconditioned response), the dogs began to salivate in the presence of the lab technician who normally fed them. Pavlov called these psychic secretions. From this observation he predicted that, if a particular stimulus in the dog’s surroundings were present when the dog was presented with meat powder, then this stimulus would become associated with food and cause salivation on its own. In his initial experiment, Pavlov used a metronome to call the dogs to their food and, after a few repetitions, the dogs started to salivate in response to the metronome. Thus, a neutral stimulus (metronome) became a conditioned stimulus (CS) as a result of consistent pairing with the unconditioned stimulus (US - meat powder in this example). Pavlov referred to this learned relationship as a conditional reflex (now called conditioned response).

What Pavlov wanted to demonstrate was that if humans could be trained to have a certain response to a certain stimulus. This helps us understand more the human behavior and how humas react if a stimulus is presented to them lots of times.

Is Assisted Suicide Ethical or Unethical?

Assisted suicide is the process by which an individual, who may otherwise be incapable, is provided with the means (drugs or equipment) to commit suicide. In some cases, the terms aid in dying or death with dignity are preferred. These terms are often used to draw a distinction from suicide; in some legal jurisdictions, "suicide" (whether assisted or not) remains illegal, however "aid in dying" is permitted[citation needed.
The term euthanasia refers to an act that ends a life in a painless manner, performed by someone other than the patient. This may include withholding common treatments resulting in death, removal of the patient from life support, or the use of lethal substances or forces to end the life of the patient.

  • In 2002, Belgium legalized partial euthanasia with certain regulations.
1.) The patient must be an adult and in a “’futile medical condition of constant and unbearable physical or mental suffering that cannot be alleviated’
2.) Patient must have a long-term history with the doctors, resulting in euthanasia/physician assisted suicide only being allowed for people residing in the country
3.) There need to be several requests that are reviewed by a commission and approved by two doctors.
  • Religious arguments
Euthanasia is against the word and will of God
Euthanasia weakens society's respect for the sanctity of life
    Suffering may have value
Voluntary euthanasia is the start of a slippery slope that leads to involuntary euthanasia and the killing of people who are thought undesirable.
  • Ethical arguments
Euthanasia weakens society's respect for the sanctity of life
Accepting euthanasia accepts that some lives (those of the disabled or sick) are worth less than others
Voluntary euthanasia is the start of a slippery slope that leads to involuntary euthanasia and the killing of people who are thought undesirable
Euthanasia might not be in a person's best interests
Euthanasia affects other people's rights, not just those of the patient

I believe that Euthanasia is not unethical. I think that every person in the world decides what to do with their life, and if they want to take it away because they are suffering they should have the right to do it.

This video shows tha various types of fractals that are in nature, and how we saw it before we knew about fractals.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZHBwItfaEM

This is a leaf. This is a clear example of a fractal because it is self organizing, and has the same shape when every time you zoom it in. There are also straight lines that are cut or jagged.

David Reimer

David Reimer was born in Canada in 1965. At eight months old, he was brought in for a standard procedure: circumcision. Unfortunately, during the process his penis was burned off. This was due to the physicians using an electrocautery needle instead of a standard scalpel. David´s parents went to psychologist John Money. Money said that the simplest solution was a sex change and reconstruct david a vagina. David was now called Brenda. John used david as his own case study and wanted to determine that nurture, not nature, determined gender indentity.

This experiment is 100% unethical. It is unethical because the phsychologist John Money used David as his own private case study. He convinced David´s parents to do what he wanted and reconstruct David a vagina and give him women hormones and estrogen. This is also unethical because the person being tested had no knowledge that he was an experiment nor his parents.

"Doubt is the key to knowledge" (Persian Proverb)

I think this Persian Proverb is absolutely right. Doubt is the key to knowledge because everytime that you doubt something you start looking for the real answer and you discover new things, hence you get more knowledge.

1. In history, for example, if there is a certain event that you doubt that it really happened you search for it and you look for what really happened. Therefore, you have more knowledge on what really happened on that event.

2.In school, for example, in my math class I have certain doubts about the formulas, so I question Mr. McDowell and he tells me the real answer.

3.Once my car had mechanical problems so I took it to an auto-mechanic shop and they told me that the radiator was giving the car problems. I doubted it was the radiator, and the next day the car still gave me problems so I took it again to the workshop and it turned out it was the engine.

I thi picture we can see how people transimit their feelings and opinions throught their language. By the language they speak they undertand each other and talk about different kinds of thing.

Discuss the roles of language and reason in history.

Discuss the roles of language and reason in history.

The roles of language and reason are a really important parts in the area of history. Through language people can communicate what happened in the past and in the way people transimts that past to other people throught language. Language helps us undestand the past because it helps us to discover they way of thinking of the people in the past. Language always changes over time. Maybe what people used to communicate 100 years ago, maybe today is completeley the opposite.
